The Many Sizes and Types of Rental Trenchers
Rental trenchers come in many sizes and types. The following material describes the different types of trenchers available to rent. Your local, ARA-affiliated rental store professionals also can help you choose the right trencher to rent.
  • Walk-behind trencher. Although called walk-behind trenchers, in reality, you usually pull these pedestrian trenchers toward you while walking backwards. Rent this type of trencher when you need to dig a trench in a tight space or one short in length. Many walk-behind trenchers come in self-propelled models. Smaller models use cutting teeth, whereas larger walk-behind models use a chain.
  • Ride-on trencher. Where no space constraints exist, renting a ride-on trencher will allow you to create long trenches faster and easier than using a walk-behind trencher. Ride-on trenchers typically also can dig deeper and wider trenches than walk-behind trenchers can dig. Ride-on trenchers come in compact to heavy-duty models.
  • Skid-steer loader trencher attachment. Many skid-steer loaders have compatible trencher attachments. You can rent the correct trencher attachment for your equipment, attach it in minutes and begin digging.
  • Attachments for trenchers. Rent attachments for your rented trencher to make it more useful. Attachments for trenchers include blades for filling, rock wheels for trenching through stony areas and vibratory plows for cutting the ground with little damage, while feeding cable. People also often rent a backhoe attachment for a trencher.
  • Trailer. Rent a trailer to haul larger rented trenchers to the jobsite easily.
